FOUR LEADERS TAKE OATH AS SENATORS

Monday, April 21st 2014 – An Oath-taking Ceremony was held at the Senate, at 10am. Former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Senator Dato' Lee Chee Leong is among four leaders taking the oath as Senators in front of H.E. Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang , President of the Senate. Also present was Hon. Senator Datuk Doris Sophia Brodi, Deputy President of the Senate.

Other than that, Jempol Umno Division Chief, Hon. Senator Dato' Haji Mohd Salim Shariff, aged 49, MCA Youth Chief, Hon. Senator Mr Chong Sin Woon and Hon. Senator Datuk Hamzah Mohd Kassim, Gopeng UMNO Division Chief also sworn in as Senators. All of them were appointed for the first time for a term period of three years beginning today.
 
Hon. Senator Dato' Lee Chee Leong, aged 57, was born in Ipoh, Perak and holds a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from Bristol Polytechnic England.

Hon. Senator Dato' Haji Mohd Salim Shariff was born in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan and holds the position as the Chairman of Risda Bina Sdn Bhd and was also a Senior Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Education from 2009 to 2013.

Meanwhile, Hon. Senator Mr. Chong Sin Woon holds a Bachelor Degree in Economics (Hons) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and once held as best speaker for MCA General Assembly in 2012 .

In addition, Hon. Senator Datuk Hamzah Mohd Kasim holds Executive Diploma in Business and Management and is also the Managing Director of Tunas Puncak Sdn. Bhd. He is very active in politics and joined UMNO in 1981.
 
Meanwhile, in his speech, the President of the Senate reminded members of the Senate to always strive to understand, embrace, defend and uphold the Federal Constitution. He also advised them not to disobey and disavow the oath they just sworn in.
