Wednesday 26 June 2013 - All 222 Members of the House of Representatives had sworn in for the First Session of the Thirteenth Parliament on the 24 June 2013 held at August House of Parliament of Malaysia. During the ceremony, Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia has been re-appointed as the Speaker of the House of Representatives through ballot system.

Re-nomination of Honourable Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia was proposed by The Right Honourable Dato’ Sri Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak and seconded by The Right Honourable Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The Oath-taking ceremony commenced with the swearing-in of The Right Honourable Dato’ Sri Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak who is also Member of Pekan and followed by The Right Honourable Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also Member of Pagoh. At the same event, Speaker of the House of Representatives announced the appointment of two Deputy Speakers - Hon. Datuk Ronald Kiandee ( Member of Beluran) and Hon. Datuk Ismail Mohamad Said (Member of Kuala Krau).

The Opening Ceremony of the First Session of the Thirteenth Parliament held on 25 June 2013 was different because for the first time the ceremony was conducted according to ‘Bad Weather Programme’. The first half of the Opening Ceremony was conducted at Banquet Hall, Parliament Malaysia, due to haze condition that is affecting the country at the moment. The arrival of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty the Queen at 10 am was received by President of the House of Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives. Joining them are the Prime Minister of Malaysia and wife and Deputy Prime Minister with his wife.

Later, His Majesty Tuanku Abdul Halim and Her Majesty Tuanku Hajah Haminah were ushered to the Banquet Hall to receive the “Royal Salute” from officers of the First Batalion RAMD Sungai Besi Camp. By 10.45 am, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty the Queen were ushered into the August Hall for the opening ceremony where His Majesty The King delivered the Royal Address. In his speech, His Majesty The King reminded all Members of Parliament not take any action that can lead to the destruction of the country as it can bring significant implication towards the future of this land.
Before His Majesty The King and Her Majesty the Queen leave the ceremony, both King and Queen took the opportunity to shake hands with all the dignitaries and guests. The Dewan Rakyat session will commence for 16 days beginning 18 July, followed by Dewan Negara, from 22 July – 1 August 2013.
