PARLIAMENT of MALAYSIA - The Opening Ceremony of the First Session of the Fourteenth Parliament of Malaysia was officiated by His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.

Also present to greet the King upon his arrival were Prime Minister, Hon. Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and wife as well as Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Speaker of the House of Representatives, H.E. Dato’ Mohamad Ariff bin Md Yusof was also there to greet the King upon his arrival.


During the Opening Ceremony, His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong addressed a few remarks. Among them were:

  1. In his speech, His Majesty reminded all members of Parliament either on the government’s or opposition’s side about their responsibilities towards people after winning the 14th General Election (GE14).
  2. His Majesty also welcomed the Government's efforts to disclose the country’s actual financial state, review project expenditure and stabilise the price of fuel as well as support the abolishment of the Goods and Services Tax that would alleviate the people's burden.
  3. In his speech, he said that there is a notion that having multiple races, religions and cultures living together in the country could jeopardise peace and stability. “However, I am grateful that the notion has no (basis) as the people have proven otherwise.”
