BILATERAL MEETING BETWEEN PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE WITH SENATOR HONORABLE SUE LINES, AUSTRALIAN PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AT THE 66TH COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE, GHANA

5th October 2023, Accra, Ghana – YB Senator Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, the President of Senate Malaysia had a bilateral meeting with Senator Hon. Sue Lines, Australian President of the Senate on 4th October, 2023 at 8.30pm (Malaysia time). This bilateral meeting was joined by other official Malaysian delegates, YB Datuk Aaron Ago Anak Dagang, Minister of National Unity, YB Senator Datuk Wira Dr. Mohd Hatta Md Ramli, YB Senator Isaiah D Jacob and YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad. This meeting was held while both Presidents of Senate are attending the 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference at Ghana, the hosting country.

2. This meeting was held upon completion of the official opening ceremony of the conference and during this meeting YB Senator Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar informed of the upcoming study tour in the third week of October 2023 by YB Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Tan Sri Mohamed, Deputy President of the Senate to the Australia Parliament. He gave a comprehensive briefing for the purpose the trip, to learn about the Australian’s Committee System, Parliamentary process of keeping the Cabinet accountability, monitoring of Executive’s action and such other relevant parliamentary law, rules of the House and ethics for conducts of the members of the Parliament in meetings.

3. This is the first meeting between the two House of Senates since the appointment of YB Senator Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as the President of Senate Malaysia since 19th Jun 2023 and the constructive discussions during this meeting will continue to strengthen the relationship between Malaysia and Australia.
