HON. SENATOR RAS ADIBA APPOINTED AS SOUTHEAST ASIAN REPRESENTATIVE IN THE COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES (CPWD)

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 December 2020 – Hon. Senator Ras Adiba 52, Member of the Senate has been appointed as the Southeast Asian representative in the Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPWD) for 3 years along with 9 other representatives from Kenya, Pakistan, South Wales, Wales, Nova Scotia, Trinidad, India and Fiji. CPwD was established in 2017 and is a parliamentary organization to raise awareness in addressing issues of people with disabilities among Members of Parliament in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and other parliamentary organizations in the Commonwealth.

 

Hon. Senator Ras Adiba Radzi is a famous television personality and used to be a news presenter and host for TV3 and NTV7. In 1995 she was involved in a road accident which resulted in her having spinal cord injury that left her with disabilities. Hon. Senator Ras Adiba, however, has risen against the odds and participated in several Paralympic sportings events such as badminton, swimming, long distance marathon and shooting. She represented Malaysia in the 2015 ASEAN Para Games in Singapore in a shooting event.

 

In 20 May 2020, she was sworn-in as a Senator, with the appointment from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to represent the Disabled community in the Dewan Negara until 2023. She was also appointed to be the chairman of the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA), the first woman to lead the 54 year old establishment
