PARLIAMENT OF MALAYSIA, 26 April – H.E. Senator Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran s/o M. Sanasee sworn in today as the 17th President of The Senate.
He took his oath of office before the Deputy President of The Senate, Hon. Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Abd. Samad in The Senate here today. S.A. Vigneswaran, 51, was appointed to succeed H.E. Senator Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang who completed his term of office as President of The Senate yesterday. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Hon. Dato' Sri Azalina Othman Said tabled a motion nominating S.A. Vigneswaran during The Senate meeting today and the nomination was seconded by Deputy Minister of Federal Territories, Hon. Senator Dato' Dr. Loga Bala Mohan Jaganathan. No other name was proposed and the Senators unanimously supported the nomination.. S.A. Vigneswaran who is the Klang MIC Division Chief, was previously appointed as Senator on 23 June 2014. The Kuala Lumpur-born politician holds a degree of Bachelor of Laws from Staffordshire University, England and Certificate in Legal Practice from University of Malaya. The Chairman of the Malaysian Indian Youth Development Foundation has been a Member of Parliament for Kota Raja, Selangor from March 2004 until March 2008 and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports during the period. In his speech after taking the oath, S.A. Vigneswaran expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister, The Honourable Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister The Honourable Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his appointment. Also present at the swearing in ceremony were the Speaker of the House of Representatives H.E. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin Mulia and Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang.
