  • The Handing Over Ceremony for Upgrading And Restoration Works of Parliamentary Building of Malaysia (Phase 3A) was successfully held at the Marquee Tent, comprising the Temporary House of Parliament of Malaysia on July 18, 2017 (Tuesday).The handover of the project was completed by YBrs Deputy Director General of Works (Building Sector). Mr. Kamaluddin bin Hj. Abd Rashid to YBhg. Datuk Awang Alik bin Jeman as the Chief Administrator of the Parliament of Malaysia.

    Phase 3A of this project is among the several phases of the JKR project implemented to ensure that the Malaysian Parliament's complex infrastructure is up to date in terms of technical integrity and building security, as well as creating a more efficient mechanical and electrical support system in line with the latest technical advances .

    This project has been implemented on a conventional 6.71 acre site with a cost of almost RM22.6 Million. The main contractor, SPA Integrated Sdn. Bhd. company was appointed through procurement by open tender. Construction started on 3rd November 2014 and was completed on the original date of completion on 2nd November 2016 without any extension of time.

    Among the facilities provided in Phase 3A are:
    i) mechanical block and electrical block that houses the latest M & E equipment that replaces the old annex block;
    ii) nursery office;
    iii) storage stores for more organized equipment;
    iv) more strategic location for guard house and refuse chamber ; and
    v) an underground 100m underground tunnel that integrates all infrastructure in support of other major blocks in this Parliament complex.

The Handing Over Ceremony for Upgrading And Restoration Works of the Malaysian Parliament Building (Phase 2B) without ICT scope Project was completed on Wednesday, 20 December 2017 at the Banquet Hall, Main Block, Parliament of Malaysia. The handover of the project was completed by the Deputy Director General of Works (Building Sector), YBrs. Ir. Kamaluddin bin Hj. Abd Rashid to YBhg. Datuk Awang Alik bin Jeman as the Chief Administrator of the Parliament of Malaysia.
 
Repair works have been phased out and Phase 2B is among those designed to ensure that this heritage building remains relevant for the next 50 years. This project is implemented internally at a cost of almost RM 191 million. The main contractor, Trans Resources Corporation Sdn. Bhd was appointed by way of Procurement on a Pre-Qualified Open Tender in Package. Construction started on 1st August 2014 and has been completed in stages on 28th February 2017 and 31st March 2017. The entire scope of the project was completed on 31st July 2017 after 3 extended periods of time.
 
This project is unique as it involves the conservation and rehabilitation work of a heritage building, before finishing and new M & E equipment systems can be provided to meet the current needs of the parliamentary institution.

Among the scope of the project in Phase 2B are:

 
a) Build a temporary block to place various divisions in Parliament while the main block is modified;
b) Upgrading the Parliament Square to provide a conducive facility during the official opening or national reception;
c) Structural reinforcement works to ensure the integrity of existing structures is assured;
d) Architectural and interior design work to meet the statutory requirements and current space requirements and reflect the current status and image of the Parliament;
e) Conservation work to restore the original features of the design of some components in 1963; and
f) Mechanical and electrical equipment upgrading works using the latest technology to align with future technical requirements
